NRN ID

Before filling the online application form, send the soft/scanned copies of your Nepali citizenship, US naturilization certificate, US passport, etc. to the Consulate General office in the email address given below:

After getting approval through phone call or email, you can proceed for online application form for NRN ID.

Before you start to fill out the form online, please get ready the scanned copies (soft copies) of the following documents. You need to upload them during application process.

1. Naturalization certificate or US birth certificate,
2. Biographic data page of your current US passport;
3. Copy of Nepali citizenship of the applicant or a copy of Nepali citizenship of the applicant’s father/mother or grandfather/grandmother of the applicant. (if the applicant is second of third generation NRN)
4. Recent passport size photo (45 mm in height and 35 mm in width) (400*300-pixel size);
5. Applicant’s signature (Please sign on a white paper, scan, crop into an appropriate size in a JPEG format, and do not forget to submit this piece of paper with your signature along with other documents).

Send/Post the application form along with other documents, 2 copies of photographs, money order and self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking number (Not Required for self-pickup)to the address of the Consulate General of Nepal, New York or submit them to the office in person or through your representative.

Documents to be submitted by ‘FOREIGN CITIZEN OF NEPALI ORIGIN’

1. Print out of the completed online application form which is signed by the applicant.
2. A copy of Naturalization/Citizenship Certificate, or US birth certificate if the applicant was born in the United States.
3. A copy of U.S. Passport.
4. Copy of Nepali citizenship of the applicant (if the applicant remained a Nepali citizen in the past, first generation NRN), or copy of Nepali citizenship of the father and mother of the applicant (if the applicant is second generation NRN, i.e. the applicant is born as foreign national but his/her father or mother were Nepali citizen), or a copy of Nepali citizenship of grandfather or grandmother of the applicant (if the applicant is third generation NRN, i.e. the applicant and his/her father or mother are born foreign national but the applicant’s grandfather/grandmother were citizens of Nepal) and the document that proves the relationship between the applicant and the grandparent.
5. Document/proof of any profession or business/employment in the country of current nationality, (if applicable)
6. Self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking number, (Not Required for self-pickup)
7. Applicant’s signature signed on a plain white paper.

Documents to be submitted by ‘NEPALI CITIZENS CURRENTLY LIVING ABROAD’

All copies of the required documents should be self-attested (by writing “true copy” at the back of the copies with signature of the applicant and date signed.  

1. Printed online application form which is duly signed by the applicant.
2. Nepali citizenship certificate and its copy.
3. Nepali Passport and copy of valid passport biographic data page.
4. Documents related to business/employment in the current country of residence.
5. Self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking number. (Not Required for self-pickup). 

All copies of the required documents should be self-attested (by writing “true copy” at the back of the copies with signature of the applicant and date signed. 

Fees/Revenue:

NRN Card (Foreign national of Nepali origin): $520.00

NRN Card (Nepali nationals residing abroad): $70.00

Notes:

For renewal of NRN ID, same documents are required as above along with the previous NRN ID.

Money order or cashier’s cheque are only acceptable (Please write “Consulate General of Nepal, New York.” on your money order or cashier’s check, otherwise your application will not be processed).

Application processing time: 7 to 10 working days

Application will be returned if the required documents are not complete and duly signed by the applicant.
